From left to right - Java, Fawn, Havana
Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit || £39.00 || Beauty Bay
Once upon a time, an all over foundation with a pinch of bronzer did the trick for me - simple and straightforward. But fast forward in time and those days are well and truly gone. I don't quite know where the turning point was, maybe stalking countless MUA Instagram accounts, watching YouTube videos or maybe just being completely and utterly obsessed with make-up, but somewhere along the lines my base face (as I like to call it) is now equivalent to half a make-up counter. Enter the world of contour and highlighting. This beauty of a technique allows you to accentuate and define your best features, hide your worst and create illusions of those you have always dreamed of so even you can emulate those Kim Kardashian cheek bones you have always fantasized about. It's fair to say contouring has become a ritual within my make-up routine and my urge to learn different ways of application whilst avidly hunting down new products is perpetual.
Being the beauty fanatic I am, The Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit has undoubtedly been at the top of my wish list for quite some time now due to the amount of outstanding feedback throughout social media. Unfortunately though, it's high demand has seen it be continually out of stock online and so for me, it has been a very long waiting game to get my mitts on this product! You can purchase this product from Beauty bay in which it currently is in stock! Right, lets get down to the nitty gritty...
The Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit contains 6 shades, 3 to highlight and 3 to contour. Five out of the six shades are matte (in which they should be to contour) however, there is one shimmer shade. Starting from the top left we have Vanilla (a matte pink) and Banana (a matte yellow). These are the shades you would use for your highlight and to brighten your face - - i.e under eyes, down the bridge of your nose, chin, and forehead. I myself like to use the banana shade as this gives a very Kim K look. I place this under my eye to set my concealer and anywhere else I want to add brightness too and stop shine. The next highlight colour is Sand (a champagne shimmer) - this is a great addition to the palette as it is perfect for highlighting the tops of your cheek bones and under your brow bone. Due to its shimmer though you don't really want to be using this for anything other than stated - that's unless you want a glittery under eye and forehead! Moving onto the contour we have Java (a matte medium brown) and Fawn (a matte taupe brown) - these two shades are just perfect for contouring as they are both cool shades containing a slight grey/taupe undertone. I see so many girls go wrong with contouring as they tend to use use really warm orange like bronzer as there contour whereas really you need to be contouring with a cooler shade. Cooler more taupe/grey shades will really give you that "shadow" and define your cheekbones. I like to use Java to create those cheek bones and Fawn to slim down my nose. The final shade is Havana - the warmest shade in the palette in which is best used as a bronzer, I sweep this across my temples and along my cheeks.
The quality of the powders are all insanely good, highly pigmented, super blend-able and not chalky or overly powdery. Using this product alone to contour is not my my preferred use though as personally I like a more dewy finish to my overall look so alternatively I like to use a foundation, concealer and highlight stick first and then set/contour with the appropriate powders. It is also worth mentioning that this product is super versatile as you can also use some of these colours as eyeshadows. Another added feature that makes this palette even more exciting is the fact that each shade is removable - meaning if there is a colour that maybe isn't for you or is too light/too dark, you can browse there refill pans for alternative colours. Sounds a dream huh? I'm already eyeing up "golden peach" to replace my shimmer highlight!
All in all an amazing contour kit that will definitely be a wholly grail item for me. Admittedly I don't own a powder contour kit like this but I can already imagine it will take some beating. So if like me you love a good old contour and are "um-ing" and "ar-ing" over purchasing this, here's my advice - "just take the plunge and invest" - you honestly won't regret it and for me this is definitely money well spent ( that's if I had brought it - this was actually a present lol!).
What are your thoughts on this product? Do you have a favourite contouring product?
